SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence. SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking a full-time Community Engagement Manager for our fast-paced, Center for Employment Training program. SOME Center for Employment Training is a tuition-free adult workforce training program that prepares adult learners for national, industry-recognized certifications for careers in Healthcare and the Building Trades. SOME CET empowers people to move out of homelessness and poverty and into living-wage careers through hard and soft skills training, adult basic education, and career development. Position Overview: The Community Engagement Manager plans, implements, and evaluates the SOME Center for Employment Training community engagement strategy, with a primary emphasis on the recruitment of new students. Covid-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations, and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME’s healthcare-designated programs. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations; 3-5 yrs. experience in Marketing, Communications, or Management in the non-profit sector; knowledge of and/or experience with the DC workforce system and/or adult education; previous supervisory experience. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations; 5-7 yrs. experience in Marketing, Communications, or Management in the non-profit sector; 1+ yrs. supervisory experience; experience with capital campaigns in the educational sector. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of Marketing and Communications techniques Understanding of educational services and student populations Time management skills with the ability to prioritize Ability to communicate with diverse audiences Public speaking skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Organized with attention to detail Goal-oriented with a strategic viewpoint Creativity Graphic design skills, including SharePoint and Website development Flexibility with the ability to be productive despite competing priorities Expected Contributions Communications: Identify effective strategies for reaching CET employer partners and stakeholders Develop CET materials for employer partners and other community stakeholders, adhering to SOME branding guidelines. Works with SOME's Director of Marketing and Communication to receive approval of all materials. Disseminate CET materials to employers and other community stakeholders Develop appropriate messaging about CET, in coordination with overall SOME messaging, and provide training for CET Analyze the effectiveness of marketing and communications approaches with corresponding analytical reporting Develop social media plan for CET in partnership with SOME’s Communications and Marketing team. Implement social media plan with CET staff, students, alumni, and employer partners. Create and deliver marketing and social media campaigns for special events throughout the year Develop a strategic system to capture student testimonials for use online and in print material Provide content management for CET pages within SOME internal and external websites, under the oversight of SOME webmaster. Create, implement, and maintain all community engagement functions and short- and long-term strategies, ensuring that they are innovative, high-impact, and focus CET in the local communities. Provide counsel to SOME Director of Marketing and Communication and CET Leadership regarding present and potential public relations concerns and/or opportunities for expanded community engagement. Assist with the expansion of cooperative partnerships with businesses, government, community, and other local relations priorities. Manage the planning and budgeting process to set up a goal-oriented annual budget. Analyze community engagement efforts segmented by specific target populations, geographical parameters, and methods of engagement. Plans implement, and evaluates the SOME Center for Employment Training community engagement strategy, with a primary emphasis on recruitment. Program Operations: Oversee workflow of application, enrollment, orientation, course completion, and graduation Plan and organize all aspects of SOME CET annual graduation ceremony Provide oversight of CET office management support and front desk operations Develop comprehensive systems for both Administrative and Admissions Support at CET Reports to: Associate Director, CET To Apply: Go to our career page at and click on the search icon to locate this position.
