Responsibilities of the Medical Billing Specialist
Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies electronically and by paper
Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness; obtain any missing information
Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount
Call insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
Answer patient billing questions and resolve patient complaints or issues
Update patient accounts and maintain accurate records
Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
Work with collections agencies on past due accounts as needed
Ensure HIPAA compliance in all billing activities
Preferred Qualifications of the Medical Billing Specialist
High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree or certification in Medical Billing/Coding is preferred
Proven experience as a Medical Biller or similar role
Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare, and Medicaid
Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding
Strong understanding of the billing software (e.g. Epic, etc.)
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
The Medical Billing Specialist role is fully onsite in Akron, OH with a salary range of $35,360 to $41,600 depending on experience
